Stone Fireplaces

Each fireplace we produce is a one-off; custom-made to suit the property and your needs.

Rather than showing a gallery of other people’s stone fireplaces, the photos on this page show the creation of one fireplace from raw block to installation whilst describing the design process.

Your fireplace doesn’t have to be large and grand, often a fireplace is the centrepiece of a home and you can rest assured that we will take exactly the same level of care and attention on even the simplest of stone fireplace designs.

When you first make contact, one of the team will visit your property to take the dimensions and have a chat about your requirements.

After this we need to get an idea of your personal taste and styles. Years ago, this would be handfuls of photos and magazine cuttings, now it’s usually done via email or WhatsApp.

The obvious starting point is showing us a selection of fireplaces you like. Beyond this is the fun part, introducing an element that makes the finished fireplace truly yours!  Examples of this could be using the type of stone from the area you grew up in or church you were married in, the style of architecture from your favourite holiday destination, favourite plants or trees or anything else which is special for you and your family.

The fireplace in the photos is a combination of 4 different fireplaces and the clients’ antique stone lions foot lamp base.

At this point we will produce some sketches and arrange another meeting to finalise the design.

Once we are all happy, the design is set out full size on hardboard, this is then positioned in place at your property, so you get a feeling for the scale and how it works in the room. We are always happy to leave this with you so that everyone has a chance to get used to it and you can make any design changes.

When everything is finalised, the block is split and sawn, ready for carving and installation.
